Uprise is not just a solar installer, but a roofing company as well! We’ve joined forces with roofer TJ Bobbitt, who has almost 30 years of experience in the DMV under his tool belt, to offer our customers roofing as well as solar services. You can check out some of TJ’s roofing projects below — we think you’ll agree his work is impeccable.
Project 1: Architectural Shingles, Greenbelt, Maryland
TJ installed CertainTeed Landmark architectural shingles on this single-family home with a pitched roof in Greenbelt, Maryland. Architectural shingles are known for durability and for having longer lifespans than three-tab shingles (both are types of asphalt shingles). Not only did TJ do the shingles, but the trim, siding, and shutters as well.
Project 2: Architectural Shingles and Siding, Silver Spring, Maryland
TJ rebuilt this Silver Spring, Maryland garage, redoing the siding and the roof. He used CertainTeed siding and GAF architectural shingles. In these pictures, you can check out the project in progress as well as the completed product.
Project 3: Modified Asphalt, NE DC
TJ installed modified asphalt roofing on the flat roof of this single-family home in Northeast DC. Modified asphalt is a roofing membrane that’s resistant to tears and water. In the pictures you can also see a white coping cap — a coping cap is the metal cover you see on top of the parapets, or party walls, on the sides of the roof.
Project 4: Two-Ply Modified and Siding, NE DC
Check out the beautiful blue siding TJ installed on this home in Northeast DC. He also did the gutters and roof — two-ply modified roofing with coping cap on the main roof, and GAF architectural shingles on the lower roof. Two-ply modified is another roofing type for flat roofs, known for its durability and resistance to weathering.
Project 5: Architectural Shingles, NE DC
This project is unique because it’s an incredibly steep roof! It’s a 10/12 pitch, which is nearly 40 degrees. That may not sound crazy, but trust us on this one — 40 degrees is very steep when you’re working on a roof! This is a single-family home in Northeast Washington, DC, with GAF architectural shingles.
Project 6: Two-Ply Modified, NW DC
On this flat roof in Northwest Washington, DC, TJ installed Firestone two-ply modified roofing, and aluminum flashing with a white coping cap. You can get an extra good look at the flashing and cap in the final picture.
Project 7: Architectural Shingles, SE DC
The roof of this single-family home in Southeast Washington, DC is unique. It’s pitched, so TJ installed GAF architectural shingles, but it also has a parapet dividing two roofs, where TJ installed a TPO flashing wall. TPO stands for thermoplastic polyolefin, and it’s an affordable, energy-efficient membrane often used for flat roofs. Bonus: if you look at buildings in the background of these photos, you’ll see several solar panels!
Project 8: Architectural Shingles, SE DC
This project is TJ’s favorite of the bunch. On this single-family home in Southeast DC, he installed GAF architectural shingles with polyglass flashing and a white coping cap. Why was it his favorite? TJ says, “All my roofs look great, but with this particular one, the customer let me pick the color. It turned out beautifully with the facade of the home.”
Project 9: Modified Asphalt, NE DC
TJ redid the roof of this single-family home in Northeast DC with Polyglass self-adhering modified asphalt roofing, as well as aluminum flashing and a brand new skylight. This customer then went solar with Uprise, so you can see TJ’s finished product and then the completed solar array installed after!
Project 10: Architectural Shingles, Baltimore, Maryland
To top off this post, we’ve got some dramatic before and after photos for you. TJ replaced the cedar shake shingles on this shed in Baltimore with GAF architectural shingles. You can see the cedar shake shingles had deteriorated quite a bit, and as there were holes in the roof, TJ had to redo the shed structure before reroofing the shed.
